How long do soap flowers last?
Soap flowers last from several months to several years. The exact lifespan depends mainly on storage conditions: a bouquet kept in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and humidity, keeps its shape, colors and fragrance for years. The fragrance is the least durable element — it gradually fades after the first months, while the shape and colors last much longer. For comparison: a fresh bouquet lasts 5–10 days on average. That is why soap flowers are also called “forever flowers” — a gift for March 8th or a birthday keeps giving joy long after the occasion.
What shortens the life of soap flowers
A soap bouquet has three main “enemies”. The first is humidity: soap dissolves in water, so a bathroom, kitchen or damp basement are not suitable places. The second is direct sunlight — it bleaches the colors and speeds up the fading of the fragrance. The third is dust, which settles on the petals over time and dulls the colors.
High temperatures are no friend either: do not leave the bouquet next to a radiator, stove, or on a windowsill in full sun all day.
How to extend the life of the bouquet
Choose a dry, ventilated spot at room temperature — a shelf, dresser or desk away from the window. If the bouquet arrived in a box, the lid is natural protection from dust and sun. Every few weeks, dust it lightly with a soft brush or a hairdryer on a cool, low setting.
Do not water or wet the flowers — unlike fresh ones, they need no care at all. That is exactly what makes them such a convenient gift.
What to do when the bouquet “ages”
When, after years, the blooms no longer look as fresh, the bouquet gets a second life: the individual flowers are made of glycerin soap and can be used for their original purpose — as scented hand soap or as a fragrance sachet in a wardrobe. Nothing about the gift goes to waste.
