How to care for soap flowers?
Soap flowers require almost no maintenance — one of the main reasons they are such a beloved gift. They are not watered, trimmed or fertilized. It is enough to follow three simple rules: keep the bouquet in a dry place (soap dissolves in water and humidity), protect it from direct sunlight (it bleaches the colors), and dust it lightly from time to time with a soft brush or a hairdryer on a cool setting. Under these conditions the bouquet keeps its look and fragrance for years.
What NOT to do
Do not wet or water the flowers — water dissolves them. Do not keep them in a bathroom or kitchen where humidity is high. Do not leave them in direct sun or next to a heat source — the colors bleach and the fragrance fades faster. And do not clean them with a damp cloth.
How to clean the bouquet
Dust is the only thing you deal with. Every few weeks, go lightly over the petals with a soft brush (a makeup brush works well) or blow over the bouquet with a hairdryer on the coolest, lowest setting from 20–30 cm away. If the bouquet is in a lidded box, dust barely reaches the blooms at all.
Where it should stand
The ideal spot is a shelf, dresser or desk in a room at room temperature, away from the window. The bedroom and living room are excellent — the bouquet is on display and lightly scents the room. To preserve the fragrance as long as possible, keep the bouquet in its box with the lid half-open.
Follow these simple rules and the soap bouquet will look like new for years — without a single minute of real “maintenance”.
